This Final Fantasy 14 guide introduces the game of Final Fantasy XIV Online. The game occurs in a land called Hydaelyn, principally in a place called Eorzea. Classical fantasy elements blend aesthetically with science fiction. Final Fantasy 14 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Square Enix is both video game developer and publisher.

The plot has the nations of Eorzea being at war with one another until the Garlean Empire razed Ala Mhigo, the strongest of the city states. The nations united together to repel the invaders. But the invaders never came. The resulting peace caused the large numbers of soldiers and mercenaries to become jobless. So they formed guilds and become “adventurers”. This is how the FFXIV players enter the story line to begin their journey as adventurers starting in one of the three city states of Eorzea – Gridania, Limsa Lominsa or Ul’dah.

There are five playable races in the current version of Final Fantasy XIV. These are similar to the Final Fantasy XI races. These races are the Elezen, Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo’te and Roegadyn.

The Elezen race are the original inhabitants of Eorzea. This race appears elf-like. They are divided between the Duskwight and the Wildwood Elezen. The Duskwight live in caverns and caves. The Duskwight have a keen sense of hearing. The Wildwood dwell in the forests. The Wildwood have a sharp sense of sight. This makes them expert FFXIV archers.

The Hyur race can be divided between the Highlanders and the Midlanders. The Highlanders once ruled the city state of Ala Mhigo. But the Garlean Empire invaded and decimated Ala Mhigo. Because they emphasize education, the Midlanders are perceived as the most cultured people in Eorzea.

The Lalafell people are small humanoids of high intelligence and great agility from the southern regions of Final Fantasy XIV online. The Lalafell race is divided amongst the Dunesfolk and the Plainsfolk. The Dunesfolk dwell on the backs of huge beasts of burden. Plainsfolk live on prairies.

The Miqo’te are cat-like humanoids. The Miqo’te race is divided between the religious sects of the Keepers of the Moon and the Seekers of the Sun.

The Roegadyn race is divided into the Hellsguard and the Sea Wolves. The Hellsguard live in a volcanic region. They are experts in the art of magic. The Sea Wolves are former pirates. They work as naval mercenaries or sailors. The Roegadyn come from the northern regions of Final Fantasy 14. They are muscular and large physically.

The Final Fantasy 14 classes are organized into four disciplines – the Disciples of Hand, Land, Magic and War. The classes of FFXIV Disciples of the Hand are the FFXIV Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Culinarian, Goldsmith, Tanner and Weaver. The FFXIV Disciples of Land include the FFXIV classes of Botanist, Fisher and Miner. The FFXIV Disciples of Magic has only two classes – Conjurer and Thaumaturge. The FFXIV Disciples of War are the FFXIV Archer, Gladiator, Lancer, Marauder and Pugilist.

The FFXIV Disciples of the Land is a feature similar to FFXI. This is a small group of several crafting jobs for crafting enthusiasts. Botanist, Fisher or Miner can gather items throughout the Final Fantasy 14 world.
